Review: Samsung SMX-F50 Standard Definition SD Camcorder

By Gadjo Cardenas Sevilla
Are we at the end of the age of the standalone camcorder? The recent demise of the Flip video camera and the improving HD video recording capability of smartphones and even tablets, it might be hard to convince casual users to spend money one standalone camcorders. For users who need great zoom capabilities, better battery life and the convenience of a camera that uses old SD Cards, here's a option worth checking out.
Samsung’s SMX-F50($199 at Best Buy Canada) might be one model to change people’s minds. This is an incredibly light, surprisingly capable video camera features a 65x optical zoom and 2200X digital zoom that no smartphone can touch. Yes, it is a camcorder in the traditional sense. It has a rotating flip-out screen that serves as a viewfinder and it can manage the zoom as well as the recording and controls of the camera.

The HMX-Q10 – Easy-to-Use Full HD Camcorder

Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd
has released the HMX-Q10 providing the best in full HD quality, with smart
features that have been specially designed to be very easy to use.

The HMX-Q10 is Samsung’s 2011 flagship
camcorder product aimed at the “Easy on the Go” segment, and offers the world’s
first Switch Grip, meaning that left or right handed users can enjoy an easy
video experience.

The HMX-Q10 includes Easy Operation via its touch-screen user interface on
its LCD, to turn the camcorder on and off, and use the playback function.

The HMX-Q10 is a key product for Samsung in 2011 and is
designed to provide a platform for securing HD camcorder leadership through
leveraging Samsung’s leadership in
differentiated usability.

The HMX-Q10’s Switch Grip feature will appeal to users who are particularly
interested in ease-of-use and practicality, as will its affordable price – as
value is the greatest priority for this audience when making a purchase.

The latest offering provides full HD Movie capability with Easy Operation via
the LCD and added OIS Duo System to compensate for hand-shaking (better than
ever before) to create a stable, clear video every time.

The HMX-Q10 is a new development for Samsung, and its key
features are specifically designed for ease-of-use.It also includes features
such as Smart Auto and a BSI CMOS sensor that creates high image quality that is
achieved automatically and intuitively.

Turn Samsung’s HMX-Q10 Camcorder Upside Down For Full HD Recording

Like the smartphone that rights itself whichever way you turn it, Samsung's Q10
camcorder still records perfectly even if you flip it, thanks to its
accelerometer. Ideal for left-handers, or those who find something better for
their right-hand to do.
The Switch Grip, as it's called, is the jewel in the crown of an otherwise
so-so camcorder. It shoots full HD, but compromises at 60i. Dropping the
resolution down to 720p will shoot in 60p. It also takes photos at 4.9MP
resolution.

Hardware-wise, it's got a 2.7-inch touchscreen, and takes SDHC/SD cards, and
has USB and HDMI ports. On sale in February, it'll cost $299.
