Get Your Tots to Flash a Grin with Samsung’s New Camera Animations

It’s not always easy to get kids to flash a smile or pay attention to the camera, especially when you’re all huddled together flashing wacky faces or flaunting formal poses waiting for the flash to go off. The photographer begins the inevitable countdown: “3, 2, 1…”
And it is that exact moment that Junior decides he wants to pull your hair or scream for ice cream or look the other way as the picture gets snapped.

Jonathan Takiff: Season's gadgets

(Source: The Philadelphia Daily News)trackingTHE GIZMO: Funny how we think about giving gizmos seasonally - in February for lovers, in June for dads and grads. Lots of companies pitch products with just such a hook. But the truth is, a smart gadget is always welcome. Herewith, some options that are good for everyone.

BABE MAGNET: We're hearing buzz about digital cameras going "bye-bye" (the newly discontinued Flip camcorder line being a sore case in point) because people are content taking digital stills and video with mobile phones. Yet a dedicated digi-camera with the right features set still deserves attention.

Take, please, the Samsung DualView ultracompact series, boasting a second LCD screen on the front that displays whatever is being captured by the lens. In effect, that second screen serves as a mirror for the subject - great for attracting a baby's attention. A front screen's also good for getting a glum teen or grown-up to perk up, after noting, "Eew, I look awful!" Or to help the shooter get properly framed in an arms-length self-portrait.

Samsung ST700, PL170 ve PL120 isimli çift ekranlı dijital fotoğraf makinelerini duyurdu

“The PL120’s new LCD screen contains two digital cameras on them. This

feature is very useful and will become very popular.”

– PC Extra, Turkey (15th March 2011)
Samsung, ST700, PL170 ve PL120 ismindeki 3 yeni dijital fotoğraf makinesini duyurdu. Ürünlerin en can alıcı özellikleri çift dijital ekrana sahip olmaları.

PL170′in ST700′den farkı ise ikinci LCD ekranın büyüklüğü.

Samsung DualView ST700

Samsung DualView ST700 Overview

Posted 01/05/2011
The Samsung ST700 features a 16.1 megapixel CCD image sensor behind a Schneider-Kreuznach Varioplan branded 5x optical zoom lens. The ST700's lens has 35mm-equivalent focal lengths from a useful 26mm wide angle to a moderate 130mm telephoto. The ST700's lens includes optical image stabilization, which should help reduce the likelihood of blur caused by camera shake, as part of what Samsung terms "Dual Image Stabilization". The other part of the function is Digital Image Stabilization, which combats blur using the camera's firmware, automatically raising the camera's ISO sensitivity (and noise levels) as needed.
There's no optical viewfinder, with images being framed on a 3.0-inch, wide-screen, touch panel LCD. A particularly unusual feature of the Samsung ST700 is that in addition to the main, rear-panel LCD monitor, it also includes a secondary color LCD on the camera's front surface adjacent to the lens. It serves as an alternative to the articulated displays found on some cameras, which can often be tilted and/or swiveled so as to allow them to be seen from in front of the lens - useful for self portraits and group shots using a timer. The dual-display approach offers an advantage over such designs in that there's no need for a potentially fragile tilt/swivel mechanism. On the other hand though, it doesn't allow the LCD screen to be protected from damage by folding it inwards as can be done with a tilt/swivel display - and indeed, there's now twice as many displays risking damage from a knock or scrape. It also can't be seen from other directions such as above or below the camera. Though large for its kind, the front-panel display is also significantly smaller than the main panel, at just 1.8-inch diagonal. Samsung has given the ST700 the ability for the front-panel display to frame self-portraits using the timer, as well as for a countdown display during timer operation (ensuring everybody knows when to smile), and to show a brief animation when the camera is in Children mode, intended to catch your child's attention so they look directly at the camera while their photo is taken. A new "Easy Self Shot" mode powers down the main LCD for added privacy.
The Samsung ST700 has the ability to record standard or high definition movies with sound at 30 frames per second, with a maximum resolution of 720p (1,280 x 720 pixels). Connectivity options include HDMI video with Consumer Electronics Control support, allowing the camera to be connected to, and remotely controlled via, the latest high-definition displays. The ST700 also includes face detection capability with a smile detection functions, which can be used to automatically capture a photo when everyone's smiling. It can also be programmed to recognize people's faces, and prioritize them when recognized in a scene. There's also a "Beauty Shot" mode which smooths skin tones on detected faces. The Samsung ST700 also has a selection of scene modes aimed at keeping things approachable for beginner photographers while still offering a degree of control over images, plus a Smart Auto 2.0 mode which automatically selects from 16 scene modes for stills and 4 for movies. Smart Filters 2.0 such as "soft focus", "half-tone dot", "cinema", "fish-eye", "miniature" and "sketch" add some interesting effects. The newly added "Magic Frame" feature instantly creates formatted postcards or posters using built-in templates.
The Samsung ST700 ships from March, priced at around US$280.

South Africa – Cape Town

Samsung Electronics has provided the author of this article with the mentioned digital imaging device.
I’ve just started work in a new architecture practice and suddenly I travelled to South Africa for a short period of work!
The mission was discover how the FIFA WORLD CUP is organized, how the city is transformed just for 4 weeks…why the South Africans had been so proud to host this big event…

This new architecture practice is involved in some stadium projects for 2014 FIFA WORLD CUP BRAZIL, so nothing better than visit a previous host country to learn!
We went to South Africa to visit three cities: Cape Town, Durban and Jo’burg.
Cape Town is an amazing city. We Brazilians say that CT is an Rio de Janeiro that who worked!
The city is guarded by imposing Table Mountain.

As a foreigner view, the city is perfect, but is known that the recent past is still present in everyday society.
The Cape Town Stadium is located in a place called Green Point, where before the WC, was a Golf field and the old Green Point Stadium.
It’s almost 2500m far from the city centre.

Despite of The Fan Fest area organized in the city centre, the point for tourists was the Waterfront, a place where there are lots of good restaurants and shops, but in this place, you feel that you are in London, Paris, or other European country, not in South Africa.
Let’s go back to the main interest in this trip…the stadiums.
The Cape Town Stadium – Green Point -”African Reinassence Stadium – is an amazing structure!
Designed for almost 66000 spectators, the stadium was the main stage for important games, as the semi-final…
Unfortunately…the stadium pictures were in my stolen memory card…so have a look in a few city pictures.
Let me keep some more information for the next posts…Wine Valley…
