Spring is coming to Canterbury

Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. has provided the author of this article
with the mentioned digital imaging device.

Hello there! Nice to meet you! I am EU. I live in Canterbury, located
southeast of the UK. I’ve been staying here for about 20 days now, getting used
to the new culture and new life. I am excited to share my adventures in the UK
with many of you with the
Samsung EX1
. A new world viewed through the Samsung EX1! You can look
forward to some interesting and fun stories.

Samsung EX1 │ 1/500s │ f4.9 │ 9mm │ ISO 80

This past week’s weather was typical UK weather. At last the rain stopped,
leaving room for a warm and cozy sunlight and a clear blue sky. Although the
wind was still chillier then one might expect with the radiant sunlight and all,
I decided to visit the Greyfriars Garden near my place to get a full feel for
the upcoming spring.

Canterbury (Kent Country- located at 85km southeast of London) is a small
town, nothing like London, with a unique warmth and comfort not easily found
elsewhere.

Samsung EX1 │ 1/500s │ f3.9 │ 5mm │ ISO 80

Samsung EX1 │ 1/500s │ f3.9 │ 5mm │ ISO 80

The cold breeze diminished the feeling of spring, but the green leaves and
purple petals appeared to be whispering ‘spring is here!’

Samsung EX1 │ 1/180s │ f4.3.4│ 5mm │ ISO 80

This somewhat lonely and deserted bench will become ever busy in April when
people flock to the park to enjoy the spring weather.

Samsung EX1 │ 1/250s │ f4.9 │ 16mm │ ISO 80

This picture is of a grandfather gazing at his grandchild who is sitting in
a stroller drinking milk. What a lovely scene! It seemed like they were
observing the Narcissus in yellow blossom along the river fence and enjoying the
spring just like me.

Samsung EX1 │ 1/350s │ f4.9 │ 16mm │ ISO 80

Have you ever heard of ‘punting’? It refers to cruising down the river on a
boat called a ‘punt.’ Punting was mostly used for hunting or fishing in the
past, but is now mostly used for tourists. The Cambridge area is especially
famous for punting. Punting also exists in Canterbury and because the river
flowing through Greyfriars Garden is not deep, it is the best place for punting.
A couple was idly riding down the river, having a peaceful afternoon. It was a
nice match with the spring weather.

Samsung EX1 │ 1/500s │ f5.1 │ 11mm │ ISO 80

At Canterbury, you can find both winter and spring…just like a falling leaf
and flower petals. Soon the leaves will all disappear and give way to green
leaves and blossoming flowers. Approaching spring is welcoming, but I already
miss the fading winter.

Firmware Updates for NX10 and NX100

Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd, a global leader in digital media and digital
convergence technologies announced firmware upgrades for two products within
Samsung’s NX compact system camera range – the NX100 and NX10 on April 18th 2011 in Seoul
Korea.

The firmware upgrades for NX100 and NX10 will give a unified user
experience for the full NX range and provide enhanced features for existing
customers.

Following the availability of the innovative i-Function lens feature on both
models, the latest upgrades are set to make the cameras even more convenient for
the photographer to use, bringing added value to Samsung’s NX range customers
and putting the perfect picture at their fingertips.

Here are the improvements in NX10 (v1.30) and NX100 (v1.10)
Firmwares

1. The Panorama function is added (in the Scene Mode menu).
2. New
18-55(II) mm, 50-200(II) mm, and 18-200 mm i-Function lenses are supported (in
addition to the OIS menu).
3. The algorithm of Video AF is improved, and the
low contrast in the AF function is increased.
4. By default, the Video AF
mode is set to CAF.

The firmware upgrade also makes these functions faster and quieter than ever,
giving photographers the ability to take noise-free, professional-looking still
images and movies with ease.

In addition, through the upgraded firmware, the NX100 and NX10 now provide the i-Function
setting help guide via the camera’s display, as available on the recent NX11
model. The feature helps users take impressive shots more easily by guiding
users with explanations on different functions of the i-Function lens.

Mr. Hyunho Chung, Executive Vice President and Head of the Digital Imaging
Business, Samsung Electronics, commented: “We continually look for ways to
improve the photography experience, to make it more fun and add value for our
customers. The latest upgrade is reflective of this. Users of the NX system
already benefit from key features such as compact portability of the devices,
and innovations like the i-Function lens. Through ongoing developments, we hope
to offer even more to enable photographers of all levels to get the best results
and professional-looking pictures every time. We look forward to announcing a
number of additional developments in the future to make the NX range even easier
for our customers to use.”

One year of NXperience

This is the first post this year, I hope not the last. At home, more and more responsibilities, the time for anything less.

Time runs so fast that it’s been a year since I am the owner of NX10 and wonderful little devil named Natasha!

Within a year I became the owner 4 of 5 NX system lenses, I must say that I’m not fully satisfied because I lack a macro lens – so awaited, perhaps imparted to even fish-eye to enhance creativity.

Each new lens for me is getting better! Moreover, confirmed by various tests. But tests are tests, I prefer taking pictures than worrying about technical matters.
About The NX I can tell you – it works all the time just as well as in January 2010.
Counter shows nearly 7200 only photos, because I still have the EX1 which the counter shows2300 photos. This is a 9600 photos by the year, or about 26 pictures a day. I do not know whether this is a good or a bad result?

During one of the photo day, I managed to flood it with water, but luckily it survived and still works. I tried it also freeze at the snow – still works!
I have not tried to throw it, but it was tested by others with NX100 – still works!
In the beginning there were a few minor problems, but thankfully the developers have eliminated them from Samsung, I hope that it will introduce a few more minor improvements as the selection of JPG compression ratio, and AMOLED viewfinder.

And it’s the end of the year.

Samsung Electronics has provided the author of this article with the mentioned digital imaging device.
It is time for the last post this year. In my life this year, a lot of changes occurred. The most important thing is that I was a daddy!
In this case, all the rest has become less important. Well, maybe except that I am the lucky owner of NX and EX systems.

So happy it happened that I am the holder almost complete set of lenses for NX10. I hope that yours Santa Claus will be generous this year.
I will meet your wishes.
